Volunteering

4 questions

We welcome volunteers who are passionate about gender equality and community development. Visit our Volunteer With Us page and complete the expression-of-interest form. Our team will review your application and get in touch with suitable opportunities.
Volunteer roles include event facilitation, community outreach, mentorship and coaching, research assistance, digital communications support, and programme delivery. Opportunities are available for both in-person (Tamale-based) and remote volunteers.
Not necessarily. While some roles benefit from specific skills (e.g., IT, legal, healthcare, education), many opportunities are open to motivated individuals willing to learn. Training and orientation are provided to all new volunteers.
Volunteering is unpaid, but volunteers gain valuable experience in advocacy, leadership, gender-based programme implementation, and community development. Certificates of participation are issued upon completion of an engagement.

Our Programs

5 questions

GEM-GHANA operates three flagship programme areas:

Economic Empowerment — Vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and financial literacy for women and girls.

Capacity Development — Health & wellness, digital skills, climate awareness, SGBV education, career mentorship, and peacebuilding.

Research & Advocacy — Policy research, public campaigns, and advocacy to drive systemic gender equality.
Our programmes primarily target women and girls in marginalised communities across Ghana, with a special focus on those living with disabilities. Specific initiatives target adolescent girls, young women aged 12–18, rural women, and young mothers.
We track measurable outcomes against clear targets. By 2030 we aim to: empower 10,000 girls with menstrual hygiene education; train 2,000 girls in leadership; reach 15,000 students with anti-SGBV education; equip 1,500 girls with digital and climate-smart skills; and support 500 rural women to start income ventures. Progress is reported in our annual and research reports.
While our headquarters and primary operations are in Tamale and the Northern Region, our advocacy and research work has national reach. We are actively expanding programme delivery to other regions of Ghana.
We welcome partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, private-sector organisations, and international bodies that share our commitment to gender equality and community development. Please contact us at info@gemghana.org or call +233 50 610 4218 to discuss partnership opportunities.
