In a bold step towards empowering young women with practical, income-generating skills, GEM-GHANA has proudly partnered with Masha Allah Leather Work to train ten (10) young women in an intensive one-month leather products making programme at the Masha Allah Leather Work Training Centre. This collaboration is part of GEM-GHANA’s ongoing commitment to fostering economic independence among girls and young women in the Northern Region.
A week after the training commenced, Madam Nimatu Abdul-Rahaman, Executive Director of GEM-GHANA, and Madam Fatahiya Musah, Capacity Development Officer, paid their first monitoring visit to the training centre. They were warmly received by Madam Rashida Zakaria, CEO of Masha Allah Leather Work, who herself is a proud graduate of GEM-GHANA’s Leather Work Training Cohort I.

During the visit, meaningful interactions with both trainees and the trainer created space for reflection, feedback, and discussions on how to improve the ongoing programme. The GEM-GHANA team encouraged the trainees to remain committed, resilient, and focused — highlighting how this training could be the stepping stone to personal and financial transformation.
Both Madam Nimatu and Madam Rashida appealed for support to scale up the programme, so more young women can benefit from this life-changing opportunity. As the training progresses, one or two more check-in visits are expected before the final graduation.

This initiative is more than just skills acquisition — it’s about unlocking potential and paving the way for sustainable empowerment.
