GEM-GHANA is a community-based non-profit organization based in Tamale-Ghana, registered by the Registrar General’s Department, with number registration CG015212020 under the Companies Act, 1963 (Act 179) on 26th February 2020.
The birth of the organization is necessitated by the dire need to address problems of inequality, marginalization, abuse and discrimination, which girls and women face in the hands of our male dominated societies. GEM-GHANA has become a forum and an anchor point to inspire, educate and empower young women and adolescent girls who have limited and in some cases have no access to decent empowerment opportunities and as a result are mostly victims of exploitation and abuse; these we believe are inappropriate and unacceptable in these modern times.
GEM-GHANA’s goal is to equip rural and peri-urban adolescent girls with innovative and self-employable skills to help them address the increasing inadequate decent employment opportunities for them and the rising incidence of Gender Based Violence (GBV) against them, which threaten them to live freely their dreams with dignity. Our mission is to inspire, educate and empower adolescent girls and young women to live their dreams with dignity. We envision a world where societies transform power and privileges for a few into equity and equality for all.
In all areas of our work, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) guide us to integrate achievable strategies to inspire, educate and empower adolescent girls and young women to attain those set goals. We strive to build partnerships with gender movements across the global community to accelerate inclusiveness, gender equality and break all barriers against adolescent girls and young women.
