On 13th July 2024, GEM-GHANA proudly began implementing the “Digital Security and Resilience Training Outreach in Tamale,” a comprehensive initiative that promises to be a game-changer for the community. This project, made possible with the generous support of the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and the Mott Foundation, is strategically designed to reach out to key stakeholders in Tamale, including selected Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), government institutions, and an amalgamated youth group. But the impact of this initiative will extend far beyond these groups. Through a series of expert-led webinars, the general public will also be empowered with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital landscape securely.
Mr. Abdul Rafiu Fuseini, GEM-GHANA’s Programs Manager, who doubles as the Project Coordinator, opened the training workshop with a brief background to the project. He noted that in today’s fast-paced digital world, the need to protect sensitive data and secure online platforms has never been more critical. Recognising this pressing need, Girls Empowerment Mission, known as GEM-GHANA, has launched an ambitious and transformative project aimed at safeguarding the digital future of Tamale.
The organisation’s Founder, Mr. Abdul Rafiiu Alhassan, on behalf of the Board of Directors, expressed his appreciation to WASCI for selecting them to support it to implement this important project in Tamale. He added that running from 13th July to the last week of August 2024, this initiative is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about building a resilient digital environment in Tamale that can withstand the challenges of the modern world. The workshops are meticulously crafted to provide participants with essential digital security skills, ensuring they can protect not only their personal data but also the digital platforms and sensitive information of the institutions they serve. In an era where cyber threats are increasingly sophisticated, this training is a critical investment in the community’s future.
The project’s outreach is vast and inclusive. Selected CSOs will benefit from tailored training that addresses their unique needs, helping them to safeguard their missions and continue their vital work in the community without the fear of digital vulnerabilities. Government institutions, often the backbone of public trust and services, will also receive specialised training to fortify their digital infrastructure against potential threats. And perhaps most importantly, the youth of Tamale, the future leaders and innovators of the region, will gain critical skills that will empower them to protect their digital identities and contribute to a safer online environment for all.
The inclusion of the general public through expert webinars ensures that the benefits of this initiative are felt across the entire community. These webinars will provide accessible, practical advice and strategies for anyone looking to improve their digital security. Whether you’re a small business owner, a student, or simply someone who wants to stay safe online, these sessions are designed with you in mind.
At its core, the “Digital Security and Resilience Training Outreach in Tamale” is about more than just technology; it’s about empowerment, resilience, and building a future where the digital space is safe for everyone. GEM-GHANA is committed to ensuring that Tamale becomes a model for digital security in the region, where every individual and institution can operate confidently in the digital world.
As the project continues to unfold, GEM-GHANA invites the community to stay engaged, participate in the workshops and webinars, and join us in this critical mission. Together, we can build a resilient digital future for Tamale—one that protects our data, our identities, and our shared future in this increasingly connected world.
